The tree is also affected by Phytophthora. Due to the extent of basal decay and the associated deterioration in the condition of the tree, removal is considered necessary on safety and tree health grounds. The tree has been inspected and assessed by Shaun Wilkinson of the Parks Department, who has recommended that the tree be felled.
