T1 - Ash - Die back and cup at union fork. Prune selected lateral branches to reduce crown spread to decrease mechanical stress on the weak cup union and on the weaker later branches. Some cutting into old wood may be necessary, in which case renovation of green growth will take 2-3 years, during which time a phased process of cutting will be carried out. The majority of the surface of the clipped trees will retain green growth after the first cut. Reason for work is to restore the historical look of the trees, match the spires of the Minster and the caps and finial on the gateway itself, as well as improving stability.
